Elective Subjects

BASS MINOR
Individually tutored lessons in Bass Guitar.

Subject content is similar to that taught in the major level (refer to bass major subject description), however the material taught is not as in-depth or extensive, as for the major.

NOTE:  Taking a Bass Minor subject means an addition cost on top of your major subject fees.  This is due to the individual tuition involved.  Additional cost is $562.50 including G.S.T.



DANCE MINOR
Dance with attitude.

This is a fun, energetic Hip Hop class designed to get you movin’!  You’ll learn how to dance with attitude, develop your dance co-ordination and skills, acquire some basic techniques and perform a wide range of steps and routines to the latest music.



DRAMA MINOR
Develop confidence and stage presence.

This is a drama course designed to develop confidence and skills.  A lot of emphasis is on improvisation, characterisation and devising your own drama performances.  Most of the work is performed in groups.



DRUM MINOR
Individually tutored lessons in Drums.

Subject content is similar to that taught in the major level (refer to drum major subject description), however the material taught is not as in-depth or extensive, as for the major.

GUITAR MINOR

KEYBOARD MINOR
Individually tutored lessons in Keys.

Subject content is similar to that taught in the major level (refer to keyboard major subject description), however the material taught is not as in-depth or extensive, as for the major.

SONG WRITING

The skills of song writing with opportunity to record high quality CD demo's of original work.

If you have loads of great musical ideas but find it difficult putting them all together, then this elective is for you!

This subject covers the ‘how to’ of song structure, creating good melodies, lyrics, harmony, stylistic features, arrangement and production.

This elective contains a strong practical element, and includes the arrangement, recording and production of original songs onto CD using EXCEL’s own recording studio.



VOCAL MINOR
Individually tutored vocal lessons.

Subject content is similar to that taught in the major level (refer to vocal major subject description), however the material taught is not as in-depth or extensive, as for the major.

NOTE:  Taking a Vocal Minor subject means an additional cost on top of your major subject fees.  This is due to the individual tuition involved. The additional cost is $562.50 including G.S.T.



WORSHIP LEADING
Learning and applying the biblical and musical foundations of contemporary worship with the opportunity to lead live worship sessions.

The worship elective covers the spiritual, musical and leadership facets of worship. The course covers the Biblical characteristics of worship, the lifestyle of a worshipper, spiritual preparation, following the leading of the Holy Spirit, the spiritual significance of worship and its role in spiritual warfare and edification of the church body.  The musical aspects will include band arrangement, use of different styles, contrast and transition from song to song, the role of the band members, vocal harmony, keyboards, and band work.  Each student is required to lead worship with full band backing at lease twice during the course of the year.
